The SES is combat agency for "Floods, Storm & Tempest".
The SES has developed flood plans for every community in NSW which has a river based flood problem.
In June 2007, The Hunter region and much of the east coast were lashed by a prolonged period of rainfall. On the Queens Birthday Weekend, residents in parts of the Hunter Valley and Maitland were advised to evacuate their homes in anticipation that the Hunter River would breach its levee.
